My time in Ann Arbor was a lot of things. But more than anything, it was short.
I got to spend two months nannying for two wonderful little boys who were fun and joyful and full of life. I loved my time with them, short as it was. I got to spend my days playing at the park, reading books, and building forts out of couch cushions. Now that's the life!
So why did I come back to Grand Rapids? Allow me to explain...
Once I got home from Chad I spent months searching for a job. I knew my ultimate goal was to work in international adoption, but I struggled to find a position I was qualified for without a Master's degree. I was accepted to the MSW program at the University of Michigan for Fall 2016, so I decided the best use of my time would be to move to Ann Arbor and find work there so I could get used to the area before starting school. So, I moved to A2, but after I'd been there just 4 weeks, I got a call from Bethany Christian Services, about a job that I applied for months before. That particular position had been filled, they told me, but they wanted to offer me a different position in the Global department! The title? Adoption Support Specialist. It's pretty hard to say no to that, so I said YES! 4 weeks later I moved back to Grand Rapids and started my new job.
So here I am, home for the holidays! It's been a bumpy ride, and I won't say I wasn't frustrated about moving away just to move right back. But ultimately I'm happy about where all the moving has brought me.
My first week of work has been great, I have some great coworkers, and I am so grateful to be working in this field.
Kids + Families + Global Community = The Dream.
